How to Change Refill

• expose the refill by unscrewing the rollerball front end (nib) 
• remove the old refill 
• insert new refill and seat refill onto spring in base of pen
• screw front end or nib back on to pen

I made the barrels of this pen from Alumilite resin and pigments to resemble abalone. Alumilite resin is a two-part liquid resin that accepts pigments and other enhancements like the hemlock cones well. Once the resin and any other enhancements are mixed, the liquid resin is cast under 60 pounds per square inch of pressure in a specialized chamber. With hundreds of pounds of pressure acting on the mold, this step eliminated any potential bubbles in the liquid resin as it solidified. After demolding, the resin blocks cured for a few days. Once cured, the ends of the blocks were squared and then turned on my lathe for shape using traditional woodworking methods and very sharp tools. In order to remove any trace of tool marks and scratches, I sanded and polished the turned pieces through 16 steps of progressively finer abrasives and polishes.
